As you know, many independent organizations and individuals produce compelling news and current events related video content for viewing online every day. With the right angle, writing, equipment, and presentation skills- you can produce great quality news content. You do not necessarily need to travel to exotic locations or break new stories yourself. Often times simply offering new commentary with a fresh or unique angle to already running news stories can be enough to draw a large viewing audience.
A high-quality camera and sound equipment are generally necessary to capture the expressions of the presenter and to deliver a quality of sound that is not degraded by white noise. Your staging area should look professional- if not modeled on a standard news desk. The room where filming takes place should be insulated with sound damping foam. And the presenter should wear professional looking clothes and be well groomed. All of these rules are flexible depending on the nature of the program you are making. The most important thing is that the production carries a degree of authority to adequately deliver your subject material.
The content which you intend to impart to your audience should have the following three indispensable attributes;
To have logical coherence means your content must make sense- or should at least be acceptable to your audience. To have a unique angle means, at least, that you have not just copied some other story verbatim. You should deliver a fresh analysis or a unique opinion about the topics discussed. Finally, the conclusion of each segment should contain a summary of the story and a striking ending statement that will move the viewer to think more about the story after your production is over.
The way your presenter delivers the information presented should match the attitude and general motif of your entire production. Presenting her or himself as a standard type news anchor might be a kind of default way of presenting news subjects. But, if you are presenting art, music, counterculture, or some other kind of niche story- then the presenter should have a manner of dress and a disposition that matches the material presented. The more unique your topics, the more unique you may want your style of presentation to be.
Unless you are taking a very informal approach to the manner of your presentation, then your post production should generally be very professional, and carry the appearance of authoritativeness that you want your entire program to have. Creative transition effects may not be appropriate, (unless your style calls for it), but sharp graphics, compelling stinger sounds, and high-quality text will help to project the paraprofessional style you are aiming for.
